“Nick Gillespie – The Voice of Reason”

06/19/11

Last Sunday, Nick Gillespie was Bob’s special guest.  He is the Editor-In-Chief of Reason.tv and Reason.com.  Reason’s tagline is “Free Minds and Free Markets.”   Nothing says it better.  Bob and Nick discussed the evils of government subsidized art (indeed, the evils of government subsidized anything) and Nick’s new book “The Declaration of Independents: How Libertarian Politics Can Fix What’s Wrong with America” which will be published on June 28.  They also put the Republican Presidential candidates through a Libertarian filter to see who makes it through.  Nick is a frequent television guest of John Stossel and Judge Napolitano.

Rent Control

Bob examines a policy that’s seventy years old, robs from the rich to give to the poor ….. AND the rich! Sounds confusing?  It is!
It’s supported by the middle class but they don’t even benefit. What is it?  Rent control.  A “temporary fix” for a problem that hasn’t existed for over 7 decades. Why do 92% of all economists consider it seriously flawed?  Why do citizens  in San Francisco, Berkeley, Santa Monica and New York support it?  Bob takes a fresh look at the issue from a Libertarian perspective in this encore episode of the show.  Explaining and defending rent control is expert Ken Carlson (ken@caltenantlaw.com), a long-time tenants rights attorney and advocate. If you’re a tenant, a landlord or a free-marketeer, you won’t want to miss this show.

George Washington Was Our Guest

6/5/11

In this episode, Bob interviewed our first president, George Washington.  Well, not quite. But close.  With great pride and excitement, we welcomed Thomas Fleming, one of our nation’s leading historians, biographer of Washington, Jefferson and Franklin, past President of the Society of American Historians and author of the popular blog “Channeling George Washington”, to our show.  Bob and Tom discussed money and politics, then and now.  What did the Founders intend to be the relationship between the two?  Is money a political pollutant, or its lifeblood?  Tom Fleming shared his lifetime of study to the important and timely issue, and put it all into keen historical perspective.

Fire All Government Workers

5/22/11

Visit Utopia.  Fly to Atlanta and take a short car trip to Sandy Spring, Georgia, the city that efficiently outsourced everything.  Are they the wave of the future?  Their budget is about half of what it would be with city employees doing the work!

Private toll roads vs. crowded public highways.  Fed Ex vs. the Post Office.  Which do you prefer? This Sunday, please join Bob and Adrian Moore of Reason Magazine for an hour of light and breezy privatization fun.  Sell the parking meters!   Sell the airports. Sell air traffic control!  Sell the prisons!  Get rid of Public Service Unions, their pensions and their padded payrolls.  Let business do business and government do government.

Immigration Reform Is Broken

5/15/11

Our Founders’ worse fears have materialized, compliments of Janet Napolitano.  For the first time in 233 years, our country has a national police force!  The Department of Homeland Security has deputized the entire nation’s police departments to enforce our racist, arbitrary and un-American immigration laws.  It’s called the Secure Communities Initiative and it makes Commissar Napolitano the Police Chief in Chief. Is that merely a very bad idea or the beginning of the end of locally controlled police departments?  Join Bob and Huffington Post reporter Elise Foley this Sunday at noon to discuss the federal takeover of our cops.  What’s next?  Can it be stopped?

Whose Body is it, Anyway?

05/08/11

Under federal law, you are allowed to donate your body parts but you cannot sell them!  This makes no sense.  Dr. Nancy Sheper-Hughes agrees with the legislators even though this law causes thousands of deaths each year due to a shortage of kidneys and other life-saving organs. Freedom over one’s body IS the last frontier.  Hear the discussion in this Sunday’s encore episode.

Straight Talk with Gary Johnson

5/1/11

In this encore episode, Bob is honored to speak to Gary Johnson: GOP candidate for President in 2012, former Governor of New Mexico and honorary chairman of the OUR America Initiative.  Bob asks Governor Johnson about Libya, the monumental budget battle in Congress and the White House, cuts in the Defense Department budget, immigration, Obamacare and much, much more.  A most important show.

Is the Constitution A Mere Technicality?

4/17/11

The Constitution was adopted 225 years ago and our country still cannot agree on what it says.  As the Obama Administration pushes its Presidential powers to and beyond its Constitutional limits, we wonder what the parameters are.  And what are the limits of Congress?  Would the Founders even recognize our country today?  Would they approve?  Bob explored those important issues with Roger Pilon, the founder and director of Cato’s Center for Constitutional Studies.  Are we living in the world of Alexander Hamilton, the world of James Madison, or of Thomas Jefferson?  Or none of above?

Atlas Shrugged

4/10/11

How did she know?  55 years ago, Ayn Rand published Atlas Shrugged, which was rated by Book of the Month Club as the second most influential book of all time.  Today, our country is actually living in the hellish world which Rand described.  Government owned auto companies; government run mortgage companies; suffocating government policies stifling entrepreneurship; tax policies and regulations controlling the free market, with “freeloaders” and “moochers” rewarded with the fruits of the labors of the “producers.”  In celebration of the April 15th movie premier of Atlas Shrugged- Part 1, Bob discussed the woman behind the epic novel with David Kelley, President of The Atlas Society (http://www.atlassociety.org/), the organization formed to promote Rand’s philosophy.  The movie and the resulting buzz could affect our future as much as the book has.  Justice Clarence Thomas, Alan Greenspan, and John Stossel have been her followers.  Find out why.  This Sunday at noon (Pacific).

Straight Talk with Gary Johnson

4/3/11

In this episode, Bob is honored to have Governor Gary Johnson, former Republican Governor of New Mexico and honorary chairman of the OUR America Initiative, as his guest for the hour.  Bob asks Governor Johnson about Libya, the monumental budget battle in Congress and the White House, cuts in the Defense Department budget, immigration, Obamacare, and much, much more.  Bob is hopeful that Governor Johnson will formally announce his intention to seek the GOP nomination for President.  A most important show.
