Guest: Jeffrey Clements
Are Corporations People? The Supreme Court treats them as such but author Jeffrey Clements does not agree with this. Jeff thinks that corporations should not have the same rights as you and me, especially the First Amendment right to free speech. He is particularly incensed by the Citizens United case which grants corporations the right to fully promote candidates for public office and he takes aim at their ability to promote or attack public policy positions. He says corporations have too much power and that diminishes the rights of non-corporate people. Is he just another anti-business, anti-capitalist leftie or is he on to something? Jeffrey’s new book, “Corporations are not People. Why They Have More Rights Than You Do and What You Can Do About It” presents the issue rather nicely and he discusses it in great detail in this episode. Can Jeff convince Bob? Maybe. Can he convince you?
